A to Z (Photography)
During class, we were given an hour to take an image inspired by every letter of the alphabet. An interesting challenge given the time. Some images I was quite proud of, others not so much.
A is for Alex. So, I didn't start of seriously. I tried just to take a nice plain picture, subject centre of the image, etc. He did say cheese, for which I am grateful.
B is for Bricks. Simple brickwork on a college wall, I liked the patterns and dull palette.
C is for Couch. Again, pretty plain image, just tried to make it look nice, central, low down.
D is for Drinks. I loved the repeating nature of this image. Especially how the colour of the bottles reflects the pattern of the rainbow. Whoever did this in the shop has a keen eye.
G is for Garden. This looked better on my phone, but up close, the focus is off. I wanted to convey a vast garden, hence the low angle.
H is for Hedge. I tried to get a clean crisp image here with a repeating pattern almost. I wish the colour was more vibrant. It was a cold day and some of the leaves were still carrying frost.
I for Information. I struggled with an idea for I. I went looking for a notice board or something after I thought of information, and liked the repeating pattern of this information stand.
J is for Jugs. J took me a while. I'm not happy with it overall. I tried to frame it like I would a still life.
L is for Leaves. Again I feel this looked better on my phone when I took it. Ideally, I'd have tried this one a few times.
M is for Marshmallows. I like the look of this image, but it is squint, and I wish I'd taken a few more to get the composition right. I like asymmetry, angling a subject to one side of the image.
N is for News. I originally thought this would be similar to Information, but I could only find one paper. I was hoping to have headlines and text fill the whole image.
O is for Orange. This is the back of a chair in the canteen. It looks more vibrant in person. O was a tricky one, and orange was really the only thing I could think of.
P is for Pool. Pretty literal this one, just tried to take a nice balanced image of the pool table.
Q is for Quiet. I struggled with Q for a while, and eventually had the idea for quiet, immediately heading for the library.
R is for Reading. Issac Asimov's I, Robot, to be precise. I thought this would look better than it did. For some silly reason, I actually tried to make sure it was a book I liked... No clue if that actually adds anything to the picture.
S is for Street. Low angle, tried to get a good image of the road. I love the derelict yellow lines on faded tarmac.
T is for Tree. This one feels rushed to me. I think I was running out of time and panicking a little. I liked the silhouette of the leaves and tree against the sky, but I'm not too happy with the composition.
U is for Underneath. U was hard! I couldn't find or think of anything. Except umbrella, for which I couldn't find one. This was looking down over our staircase. I was hoping to frame everything central, but it didn't work out that way.
V is for Vector. Vector, an arrow signalling both force and direction. ...Not going to lie, this one was cheap. But I really struggled for V, and was very aware of how little time I had left.
W is for White. Image shows white chef's coats outside the restaurant. I like how simple this is.
X is for eXit. The last image to use an Exit sigh. I tried convincing myself the design of the man looked like an X, but I failed. I couldn't think of anything else for X.
Y is for Yellow. Yellow sign, tried to line it up right. I like the bright yellow against the dull blue tones here.
Z is for Zesty lemon drink! I tried finding a lemon. The cafe helped me, but we couldn't find one. I had to settle for iced tea. Still, not the worst photograph I took.
